What is the Road to 10k TikTok trend, #teamwork trend, Pay Off Debt Trend
A TikTok trend that increases your following and pays? Sounds like a trend everyone should sign up for! Or is it?

The Road to 10k, #teamwork, Pay Off Debt, and trend all seem to have started with genuinely good intentions, but there is a bit more to each trend than what is being shared on TikTok.
Many people are opening up to the idea of being a content creator or influencer now that it is being recognized as a legitimate way to make money online.
The problem is that being an influencer is a bit harder than buying a pair of jeans, making a video, and slapping on an affiliate link. You need to have a decent following or views before you can get accepted into the Creator Fund or TikTok shop.
The Road to 10k trend #teamwork trend and Pay Off Debt trend were designed to help people just starting out on TikTok to quickly gain a following so that they can start making money by selling items on TikTok shop, doing affiliate marking or joining the Creator fund.
Why Does Everyone Want 10k Followers?
The simple answer is that at 10,000 followers, you are eligible to join the TikTok Creator Fund and promote items on TikTok shop.
It’s also speculated that the TikTok algorithm favors creators with a larger following. This means that TikTok will push out your content more heavily once you gain 10k followers.
Selling items on TikTok shop can be a nice way to get some side income. Honestly, in this economy, any extra income is welcome.
What is the Road to 10k Trend?
The Road to 10k is a trend where small content creators are banding together to increase their followers. It involves a follow-for-follow structure to gain followers in a short amount of time.
Small content creators usually use a trending sound or hashtag to let others know that they are on the Road to 10k. Then you’ll just go to the comments and start following the other Tiktokers that are on the same journey.
The best part is that this trend isn’t exclusive and as long as you are willing to put in the work, it can be a great way to increase your following.
This trend has also created Grow Rooms which are TikTok lives that are dedicated to the follow-for-follow structure. Grow rooms are great because you’ll instantly gain followers as opposed to just following random commentors on videos and hoping that they follow you back.
When I joined the Road to 10k, I gained a good following using Grow Rooms in the beginning.
What does #teamwork Mean?
On most videos that support the Pay Off Debt or Road to 10k trend, you’ll notice comments that simply have “#teamwork” written.
If you see this hashtag, simply like the comment and follow the person who wrote it. The person should then follow you back when they see the engagement on the comment. Simple!
The only real problem with this method is that there is no real guarantee that the commenter will follow you back, so you have to keep checking.
As a matter of fact, there are plenty of TikToks that are calling out creators who say they are on the Road to 10k but they unfollow shortly after following.
If you decide to join the trend, don’t be that guy.
What is the Pay Off Debt Trend?
The Pay Off Debt trend is a little different because this trend assumes that you already have the 10,000 followers and you’re already part of the Creator Fund.
Basically, it was assumed that if you were in the Creator Fund and made one video that reached an absurd amount of views, then TikTok would pay out a bunch of money.
Wrong.
What many small content creators don’t know is that the views have to be “qualified views.” What are qualified views exactly?
According to the TikTok Help Center, “Qualified views are unique video views from the For You feed and excludes views with fraud, paid views, disliked views, views with less than 5 seconds watched, promoted views, and artificial views. Videos must reach 1,000 For You feed views to start generating earnings.“
This means that videos that ask for engagement may not be considered a qualified view, which defeats the whole purpose of the challenge.
Does TikTok Support the Road to 10k, #teamwork and Pay Off Debt Trend?
Many smaller content creators that are a part of the Road to 10k, #teamwork and Pay Off Debt trend have complained about not being pushed out to the FYP.
Since TikTok also doesn’t seem to consider many views as qualified views, one can only suspect that TikTok doesn’t support these trends.
There’s only so much money that is alotted to the Creator Fund so it makes sense that TikTok only wants to keep it as exclusive as possible
Final thoughts
The Road to 10k, #teamwork, and Pay Off Debt trend are great ways to increase your following but it doesn’t really give you a specific audience type and advertisers hate that.
You don’t know what content the people that you are following (and the ones that follow you back) are looking for, so even if you do gain a lot of followers, you may not get a lot of engagement or traction on your posts.
You’ll still want to focus on a specific niche and gain followers and engagement organically to be a successful content creator.
